It is funny, if you are watching the news these days, it is all doom and gloom, the economic world ending. For some this is a sad fact of life. But is it really true for everyone? Certainly not! Since most of you reading this article are martial arts people you are familiar with the YIN/YANG symbol. The whole of opposites - what goes up must come down and vica versa.

The companies that are currently in BIG trouble (GM, Ford and Chrysler as an a example) have been headed that way for years. It did not happen overnight. Just like when they were prospering, that did not happen overnight. These companies have been mismanaged for years. Big money coming in one door, and money bleeding out the back end. Just look at the fact that these clowns (Richard WagonerRobert Nardelli, and Alan Mulally) show up to meet with congress on private jets. They spend company money as they see fit having no idea what is really going on. I have only one thing to say to these guys (Donal Trumps words) YOU'RE FIRED!!!!!

So who will prosper in this economy. The owners and entrepreneurs who are prepared. The men and women who understand how to run a business, keep statistics, spend money, and give great customer service. Something that the CEO and managers of the BIG 3 know little about.

Now if have ever worked for one of the BIG 3, you will understand what I am talking about. What happens on the plant floor is a reflection of what happens in the offices. What is the most common theme at a car plant? PUTTING OUT FIRES! When you spend all your time putting out fires, you waste time, money and resources, plus you mist opportunities that might be coming your way.

So as a martial arts professional how do you spend your time? Working at putting out fires, or practicing prevention? Spend your time on developing great student service, working your lead box, holding special events, community service. Take care of the students you have and you will get more! Make all your students talk about how great your school is and you will prosper.

Find a business that is doing well and model what they are doing. Don't do the things that other martial art schools are doing unless they are very successful!

Stay focused and good times will be ahead!
