How do you retain junior students? We all have a curriculum we need to follow to get the student ready for their next belt promotion. But with the time between belt promotions (and this should be 3 months people!) it can be hard to keep the child motivated.

Here in part one we will talk about keeping the parents motivated! When the parents are motivated to bring their son or daughter to class half the battle is won! Our first line for keeping the parents on our side is our Message of the Week. We have all the kids kneel down, as close to the parents area as is practical (we want them to hear), then the instructor also kneeling will read and talk about our message of the week.  We have 26 differently weekly messages currently so the repetition is very low.

Do the parents like this? They LOVE IT!

If you don't have a message of the week, it is time to start now! There are some great topics that we can never of emphasize to the kids. Here is a short list.

  • Being Courteous
  • Dealing with Bullies
  • Developing Goals
  • Leadership

The list goes on and on.

Remember, don't just think about doing this. IMPLEMENT it NOW.
