Information for School Owners
Welcome to the Canadian Martial Arts Teachers Association. What is the mandate of this Association? We are not another political martial arts organization handing out rank to martial arts instructor. We are an organization of school owners who are going to hold up the standard of professional martial arts teaching and instruction. This organization will charter schools, and certify teachers of the highest quality. Our members are teachers who alwasy have the best interests of the students in mind. The martial arts world has gone through many phases in the last 30 years. Many of us have risen above the crowd as teachers and have changed the face of the arts and it's instruction. But sadly in this day and age there are still martial arts clubs and schools with blood on the mat every night. These instructors negatively impact what we are trying to teach in our schools. There have little of no experience as teachers, physically and verbally abuse students and give the martial arts community a dirty name. This is also an invitation for some body (the government) to step in and regulate our industry. (if you recall John Graden, founder of NAPMA was very concerned about this). What is the problem with our industry? There is virtually no barrier for entry. Anyone can open a karate studio, you don't even need to be a Black Belt! Most schools or clubs are opened by excellent Blacks Belts, but this does not make them teachers. As an organization we have set standards of excellence for teaching and instructions of both adults and children. Member schools can proudly display our crest at their schools and in their advertising materials. This symbol, will be the mark of excellence for the industry, telling parents and prospective adult students, that they will receive the best instruction in the arts available today.
